UK Startup ScrubMarine Raises €849K to Revamp Subsea Operations through Robotics

One UK-based startup that caught my attention is ScrubMarine, which focuses on creating autonomous subsea robotics along with data solutions for inspection and maintenance purposes. ScrubMarine has already closed a successful pre-Seed round with €849K ($1 million) funding.

The funding round was participated in by PXN Ventures North of England, SFC Capital, and strategic angel investors Colin Greene and Graham Westgarth, as reported by The Times, where the lead investors of the funding are SFC Capital and PXN Ventures.

On the achievement, Rohith Devanathan, co-founder, and CEO, commented on the company’s page on LinkedIn: “The maritime industry fuels global trade, but the underlying infrastructure for much of this industry comes from the legacy world. We are creating autonomous systems that can function in some of the toughest conditions on the planet.”

ScrubMarine was founded by Rohith Devanathan and Clyne Albertelli and is based in Whitehaven, Cumbria. The startup aims to change the face of maritime inspection and maintenance with autonomous robots. The goal of this innovative startup is to provide a safer, faster, and scalable process for performing underwater activities. Currently, this process is slow, labor-consuming, and quite costly. The robots provided by ScrubMarine can perform a number of functions, including cleaning, inspecting, and maintaining offshore wind and oil infrastructure.

ScrubMarine’s solution integrates subsea robotics and cloud analytics capabilities, providing perpetual and real-time asset monitoring data.

In early this year, ScrubMarine was nominated for the 2025 GBIP initiative organized by Innovate UK and the Department of Transport in the UK. In 2024, the company raised slightly under €228.5K (£200K) in the Pre-Seed investment round led by Praetura Ventures.

With this new round of investment, ScrubMarine is ready to move forward in its mission to popularize subsea robotics. The firm is set to make an impact in the maritime industry and its application in underwater inspection and maintenance through the application of cutting-edge subsea robotic solutions and cloud-based analytics.

This strategic investment illustrates the ever-increasing demand for novel maritime technologies and ScrubMarine’s dedication to providing a safer and more efficient subsea working environment that is also data-centric.
