For the fourth year in a row Japan's animation sector is expanding

The industry expanded by about 15% from the previous year, making it the fourth consecutive year of record growth.

The yearly research, which looks at nine categories, including television and streaming, found that overseas sales, including distribution contracts and items, exceeded $13.9 billion, about six times the amount reported in 2002 when data collection began.

Domestically, product sales were almost $4.8 billion and streaming revenue was over $1.7 billion, both of which represented a roughly 6% increase over 2023. Television and movie revenues climbed by about 1% to $441 million and $628 million, respectively.

The organisation claims that while overseas markets continue to grow rapidly as a result of the spread of streaming platforms, the local market is only marginally growing and that the gap between domestic and foreign revenue is expected to worsen in the coming years.
