78,000 children are learning about sustainability through urban farming. Pragati Chaswal founder of the SowGood Foundation started. This programme to teach children how food grows and how to care for plants.
Schools have turned rooftops, walls and small spaces into gardens. Children plant seeds, water crops and watch them grow. They learn lessons in science, math and language while working in the garden.
Students take responsibility for watering, weeding and harvesting. Older students guide younger ones so the system runs smoothly with little help from teachers. This teamwork makes learning fun and practical.
The programme also involves families. Parents see what their children grow and try some activities at home. Composting, planting and waste segregation become habits that children carry into their daily lives.
Pragati Chaswal says the goal is to create long lasting habits. Children become curious about nature, learn responsibility and understand sustainability in a hands on way. The SowGood programme shows that education can be active, joyful and meaningful.
Through this initiative, schools are not just teaching textbooks. they are growing green learners who care for the environment.
