A young archery champion in Tobago is inspiring people with her work for the environment. Anthurium Lewis is only 17 years old. But she is already a six time national archery champion.
She says sport has helped her become strong and confident. She also said it helped her speak up in public. Many young people face age limits when they try to share ideas. But she is working to change that.
Anthurium also works on a project for Sustainability. She helps plant fruit trees across Tobago. Her goal is to make the island greener and improve food supply.
She works with schools and local groups. She teaches children how to plant and care for trees. These include fruit trees like breadfruit, soursop and starfruit.
She believes children can help change the world. She says young people do not need to wait to start helping. They can take action now.
In one school, she saw big change. The garden was empty before. Later, children started planting and caring for plants every day. This made her very happy.
Her work also helps students learn teamwork and responsibility. It gives them a chance to learn outside the classroom.
Anthurium also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These goals aim to protect people and the planet.
She says sport and nature work together. Both help build discipline and confidence.
Her message is simple. Young people have strong voices. They can help build a better and greener future.
