A new learning center at CU Boulder is helping students learn more about protecting the environment. The SPIKE Center for Sustainability Education started in fall 2025.

The center was created with a $10 million gift from alum Spike Buckley. University leaders said the goal is to help students learn skills for green jobs and a better future.

In its first year the center has worked with students, teachers and staff. It has listened to their ideas and needs. The team is now building new plans for future learning programs.

One big plan is a new sustainability minor for students. It is expected to start in 2027. This will let students study topics like climate and the environment in a simple program.

The center also has a bigger goal. It wants every student at CU Boulder to learn about sustainability by the year 2030. Leaders say this will help students be ready for future jobs.

The SPIKE Center is also focusing on real world learning. This means students will get hands on experience. They will also connect with companies that work in green jobs.

School leaders say teamwork is very important. The center is working with many groups on campus to build strong programs. They also want students to share ideas and give feedback.

Officials say the center is helping CU Boulder become a top school for sustainability education. They believe it will prepare students for a changing world.
