Logitech Bets Big on AI, Gaming and Business Growth

Logitech is preparing to take the next big step with a more aggressive approach. The company known for their mice, keyboards and webcams is significantly increasing the amount of capital that will go into the three fields which will shape its future: Artificial Intelligence, Gaming and Business Users. CEO has stated that they are willing to invest above and beyond current levels to create this growth, even if it means some margin pressures for short term gain.

Increasing the expenses for Logitech aligns with a shift in their bigger strategy. In the past Logitech primarily served average consumers by providing a reliable, well designed and functional product offering. This approach has been successful in the past for Logitech, however, this market has changed significantly with increased levels of competition and customers now look for more than just good product engineering from their suppliers. Logitech plans to evolve into something more than simply being known for high quality gaming peripherals, but also embedding smart features in to their product offerings and connecting with professional and enthusiast users.

Logitech’s G brand has always been a major contributor to their brand. The gaming peripherals market has remained a very competitive market, but users of gaming peripherals (Gamers) are very loyal. This is because Gamers generally invest heavily into their gaming setups, and also because Gamers develop brand loyalties, and tend to stay with brands they trust. Logitech believes that the growth potential for the G brand continues to expand along with the growth of the gaming community becoming more mainstream, and the increasing demands that Gamers are placing on hardware platforms.

Demand for high-quality video conference equipment, headsets, and collaboration tools grew substantially as a result of the shift to hybrid offices driven by the pandemic. Logitech has been a major player during this wave and now wants to strengthen its franchise in the enterprise and professional markets with reliable, premium products for people’s everyday working habits.

Adding the latest level of AI to its strategy, Logitech is investigating ways to enhance its product offerings using artificial intelligence. Examples include headsets with improved adaptive noise-cancellation features (smart noise cancellation or ANC) or very intuitive software experiences based on how the individual customer works and plays.

The clear message from the CEO to Logitech’s shareholders is: “We’re going to invest in our future growth by making these investments now so that we can set ourselves up for profitable growth going forward.” The market will follow closely whether Logitech will succeed or fail in its gambit.
