WKU Personal Finance Camp Helps Students Build Money Skills for the Future

Western Kentucky University recently hosted its 6th Annual Personal Finance Summer Camp. The program welcomed 53 high school students from across the region.

The week long camp was designed to help students learn important money skills. Students took part in hands on activities, group projects, workshops and learning sessions. They learned how to make a budget, save money, use credit wisely, invest for the future and set financial goals.

The camp was led by the WKU Center for Financial Success and supported by Abound Credit Union. Camp leaders said the goal is to help young people feel confident about managing money before they enter college or the workforce.

One of the biggest events during the camp was the Financial Plan Case Study Competition. Students worked in teams to create a financial plan for a mock client. Each group presented its ideas and showed how smart financial choices can help people reach their goals.

Students also attended leadership sessions and met professionals from the banking and finance fields. These activities gave them a closer look at possible careers and helped them learn from people with real world experience.

WKU officials said the camp gives students practical skills they can use throughout their lives. They also thanked Abound Credit Union for its continued support. The credit union has worked with the camp since 2022 and has helped expand financial education opportunities for students.

Abound Credit Union leaders said teaching young people about money is an important investment in the future. They believe financial knowledge can help students make better decisions and build successful lives.

The WKU Center for Financial Success provides financial education and support to students and community members. Through programs like this camp, the center hopes to create a stronger and more financially informed community.

As the camp came to an end, students left with new knowledge, greater confidence and valuable lessons that can help them make smart money choices for years to come.
