Britons Face Money Worries as Personal Finance Confidence Falls in 2026

Many people in Britain are still worried about money in 2026. A new survey shows that rising prices and higher energy bills are making it hard for many families to feel safe about their money.

The survey found that savings are the biggest worry. About 35% of people said they do not feel confident about the money they have saved. Another 31% said they are not sure they could pay for a surprise cost like a car repair or a home problem. Also 30% said they do not feel safe about their money in the next year.

There was some good news. Many people said they can still pay for daily needs. Around 64% feel confident about buying food and other everyday items. About 62% said they can pay their energy and utility bills. More than half said they can also pay their housing costs.

When money gets tight many people look for extra help. The survey found that 34% use credit cards. About 23% use their savings to cover bills. Another 17% use Buy Now Pay Later services. Some people also use overdrafts or borrow money from family and friends.

The report also showed that many people are putting off big plans. About 18% delayed buying a car or another costly item. Around 7% waited to change jobs. Another 7% delayed moving to a new home.

The survey shows that many families can still pay their daily bills. But many are worried about saving money and paying for surprise costs. Rising prices and the higher cost of living continue to make people careful about how they spend their money.
