Israel Defense Industry Works on New Drone Safety Tools

Israel's defense Industry is working fast to stop a new drone threat from Hezbollah. The group has started using small fiber optic drones that are hard to find and stop.

These drones do not use radio signals. Because of this they cannot be blocked by many normal defense systems. They can fly low and quietly before hitting their targets.

Israeli officials said at least 12 soldiers have been killed by these drones since fighting began again in March. The attacks have pushed the military to look for better ways to protect its troops.

The army has started using strong mesh nets over some bases. Soldiers have also been given shotguns and special rounds that can be used against drones at close range. However, these tools work best if soldiers know the drones are coming.

Israel is now working with private technology companies to build better warning systems. Some companies are making tools that use cameras, radar, sound and laser sensors to find drones early. New software can also combine this information and give soldiers more time to react.

Experts say even 20 to 30 extra seconds of warning could help save lives. The goal is to spot the drones before they reach soldiers or military sites.

Some military leaders said the drone threat grew after similar drones were used in the Russia and Ukraine war. They admitted Israel was not fully ready for this new kind of attack. Now they hope new technology will reduce the danger in the months ahead.

The defense industry says it will keep working with the military to build stronger and smarter ways to protect people from future drone attacks.
