A new global survey shows that many companies still support Sustainability even as they face money problems and new business challenges.
The 2026 Sustainability Census asked more than 2,300 workers from 76 countries about their jobs. The survey found that most companies are keeping their sustainability teams and budgets.
Almost two out of three people said their company spent the same amount or more on sustainability during the last year. About one in four said spending went up. Some companies did cut their budgets because of higher costs and slower business.
The survey also found that most teams stayed the same size. Some companies added more workers, while others made small cuts.
Many workers said it is now harder to balance sustainability goals with other business needs. They also said new rules and reports take more time to manage.
Even with these problems, companies still see climate action and cutting pollution as important. Many businesses are working on long term plans to protect the environment and improve their future.
The survey showed that more women now have top jobs in sustainability. It also found that the gap in pay between men and women has become smaller. More leaders are taking senior sustainability roles than in past years.
Experts said the field has grown a lot over the last 20 years. They believe sustainability is now an important part of many businesses. At the same time, they say companies must turn their plans into real action to meet their public goals.
The report also found that many workers want new jobs to grow their careers and earn better pay. Even with new challenges, the survey shows that sustainability work remains an important part of business around the world.
