Meta Platforms has hired MongoDB CEO Chirantan “CJ” Desai to lead a newly created business focused on bringing the company’s artificial intelligence tools to enterprise customers.
Desai will join Meta as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer and report directly to CEO Mark Zuckerberg. His appointment comes as Meta launches the Meta Enterprise Platform, a new business designed to turn the company’s AI technology into products and services that organizations can deploy across their operations.
The platform will initially bring together Meta’s AI models, agents and developer tools, including its Muse personal AI agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code. Meta said the products are intended to help businesses use AI to grow, serve customers and automate parts of their operations.
Muse, which Meta launched earlier this month, is designed to perform tasks on behalf of users, including sending emails, booking travel, shopping and making payments. Meta is now looking to extend similar agentic capabilities into the corporate market, where companies are increasingly experimenting with AI systems that can complete multi-step tasks rather than simply generate text or answer questions.
Desai brings extensive enterprise technology experience to the role. Before becoming MongoDB’s CEO, he led product and engineering at Cloudflare and spent nearly eight years at ServiceNow, where he eventually served as president and chief operating officer. MongoDB has appointed its former CEO Dev Ittycheria as interim president and CEO while it searches for a permanent successor.
Meta said Desai will focus on turning its AI stack into tools that companies can deploy for their own businesses. The company highlighted his experience across enterprise software, infrastructure, security and AI as it seeks to build relationships with corporate customers.
The move puts Meta into more direct competition with companies such as Microsoft, Google, OpenAI and Anthropic, which are also developing AI agents and enterprise platforms. Meta has already been building business-focused AI tools, including a Business Agent capable of handling customer questions, qualifying leads and performing tasks such as bookings and payments across Meta’s messaging platforms.
For Meta, the enterprise push represents a new potential business opportunity beyond advertising and consumer AI. The company will now seek to persuade businesses that its models and agents can provide reliable, secure and scalable tools for everyday corporate operations.
Desai’s appointment signals that Meta intends to compete for that market with a dedicated enterprise strategy, combining its AI models, agent technology and large-scale infrastructure into a platform aimed at businesses of different sizes.
