ChatGPT launches new Personal Finance experience

OpenAI has launched a new Personal Finance feature in ChatGPT. The new tool is now being tested by Pro users in the US. It is available on the web, iOS and Android.

The feature lets users safely connect their financial accounts to ChatGPT. More than 12,000 financial institutions are supported through Plaid.

After accounts are linked, ChatGPT can show users a simple view of their money. It can show spending, investments, bills, subscriptions and other financial details.

Users can also ask questions about their money. For example, they can ask how to manage spending or plan for a large purchase.

ChatGPT can also remember some financial goals. Users may share plans such as saving for a car or paying off a loan. These details can be saved as Financial memories.

OpenAI says users remain in control of their data. ChatGPT can see balances, transactions, investments and debts. However, it cannot see full account numbers or make changes to connected accounts.

Users can disconnect their accounts at any time. OpenAI says synced account data will be deleted from its systems within 30 days after an account is disconnected.

The new finance experience uses GPT 5.5 Thinking by default. OpenAI says more than 50 finance experts helped test the system. GPT 5.5 Thinking scored 79 out of 100 on OpenAI's finance test.

The feature is currently a preview for Pro users in the US. OpenAI plans to test it further before expanding it to Plus users and more people.

OpenAI also says ChatGPT is not a replacement for a professional financial adviser. Users should get expert help for important financial decisions.
