Instagram is rolling out a new AI-powered video assistant designed to help creators understand their content performance and develop ideas for future videos.
The assistant is built into Meta’s Edits video-editing app and is designed to provide personalized guidance rather than generic recommendations. It can analyze information from a creator’s Instagram account, including views, follows, audience retention, likes and shares, while also considering comments, current trends and audience interests.
Instagram says the assistant can identify patterns in a creator’s performance that may be difficult to spot by looking at individual metrics. Creators can ask questions about which posts performed well, why one Reel retained viewers longer than another or what types of content may be worth making next.
The tool can also generate video concepts, hooks, captions and scripts based on a creator’s previous performance. It can recommend trending audio that matches a creator’s niche and style, with recommendations available directly through the assistant.
Instagram has emphasized that the assistant is intended to support, rather than replace, creators’ creative decisions. Brett Westervelt, who leads the Edits app, said creators wanted a tool that could handle the analysis while allowing them to remain responsible for the creative choices.
The assistant was developed with input from a group of creators who tested earlier versions and provided feedback on how the technology could be most useful. Meta first previewed the tool at an invite-only creator event in June, when it also announced plans for a desktop version of Edits.
The rollout comes as social platforms increasingly use AI to help creators produce and optimize content. YouTube is also developing conversational AI tools for video creation, increasing competition among platforms to provide creators with more automated assistance.
The Edits assistant is initially rolling out to users in the United States and is free with a daily prompt limit. Meta has said heavier usage will eventually be available through its Meta One subscription service, which is expanding access to additional AI features and professional creator tools.
The launch marks another step in Instagram’s effort to keep creators inside its own ecosystem, combining analytics, inspiration, editing and AI assistance in one workflow. As these tools become more capable, the competition among social platforms is increasingly focused not only on attracting creators but also on helping them produce content more efficiently.
